There are few exceptions: six improvised variations on Stephen Foster's My Old Kentucky Home, a free improvisation on the Valentino solo viola piece Solfegietto and a simple piece, Go, played with no embellishment. The mandate was to follow a whim to create something good, bad, silly or otherwise — as long as it retained a level of rawness through no or minimal preparation.
